Fri Apr 1922:04Spencer Turnbull Takes No-No Into Seventh Inning On FridaySpencer TurnbullSPTigersFree Agent
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitching Spencer Turnbull took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and recorded a win in the Phillies 7-0 victory on Friday night. Turnbull struck out six and only yielded one hit to Gavin Sheets to end his no-hit bid. The righty bounced back from a so-so start in his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates and continued a very strong start to his 2024 campaign. Turnbull now has a 1.23 ERA in four starts and is posting up a 0.77 WHIP. Fantasy managers are certainly going to be interested in adding Turnbull if he's available on the waiver wire. By expected stats we can expect some negative regression to come his way, but at a 3.39 xERA the negative regression won't hit him too hard. Turnbull is worth the addition to your roster, even if it's just stashing him for a little longer. His next start will be Wednesday at Great American Ballpark against the Cincinnati Reds.

Fri Apr 1916:14Brandon Drury Back In Angels LineupBrandon Drury3BYankeesFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (hamstring) is back in the starting lineup on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds, serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth in the order. Luis Rengifo remains at second base and is batting seventh for the Halos. Drury missed the team's last three games with left-hamstring tightness but is back in action against his former team, the Reds. It's a good place for Drury to come alive with the bat in a hitter-friendly environment. So far in 2024 in his first 55 at-bats, Drury has been cold, picking up only 11 hits for a .200 batting average while hitting one home run, driving in three and scoring five runs. The Reds currently don't have a starter listed for Friday's contest yet.

Fri Apr 1912:15Ian Gibaut Has Renewed Forearm DiscomfortIan GibautSPRaysFree Agent
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Ian Gibaut (forearm), who was nearing a return from the 15-day injured list, is dealing with renewed forearm discomfort and has had his timeline to return pushed back. Gibaut will now take a little break before trying to resume a minor-league rehab assignment. The 30-year-old reliever has no timetable to return and could be looking at surgery, which would almost certainly end his 2024 season, if he can't get past the forearm pain. The former 11th-round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2015 out of Tulane had a nice 3.33 ERA (4.07 FIP), a 1.28 WHIP, a career-high three saves, 28 walks and a career-high 69 strikeouts in 75 2/3 innings over 74 relief outings for the Reds in 2023 as a trusted high-leverage reliever out of the bullpen.

Wed Apr 1719:18Brandon Drury Won't Start Again ThursdayBrandon Drury3BYankeesFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (hamstring) will only be available to pinch hit on Wednesday and Thursday to wrap up a series against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to manager Ron Washington. The Angels are being cautious with his left-hamstring tightness on the turf at Tropicana Field. The 31-year-old veteran infielder will miss his third straight start on Thursday, but there's a chance he could be back in there for the start of a series on Friday in Cincinnati against the Reds. In the meantime, expect Luis Rengifo to get another start at the keystone on Thursday in Tampa. Drury has gotten off to a slow start offensively for the Halos in 2024, going 11-for-54 (.204) with only one home run, three RBI and five runs scored in his first 15 games. It sounds like he should avoid a trip to the injured list.

Wed Apr 1717:10Julian Merryweather Moved To 60-Day Injured ListJulian MerryweatherSPBlue JaysFree Agent
The Chicago Cubs moved right-hander Julian Merryweather (back, ribs) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on Wednesday to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Colton Brewer, who was recalled from Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs also recalled right-hander Hayden Wesneski from Iowa and optioned left-hander Luke Little and right-hander Daniel Palencia to Iowa. The 32-year-old Merryweather was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his ribs and in his back last week and he won't be eligible to return to the club until early June. He won't resume throwing for three weeks and may not be able to return to the Cubs' bullpen until closer to the All-Star break. Injuries continue to bother Merryweather in his MLB career.

Wed Apr 1716:07Brandon Drury Missing Again WednesdayBrandon Drury3BYankeesFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (hamstring) is still out of the team's starting lineup on Wednesday versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Luis Rengifo will start at second base again and bat seventh against Rays right-hander Zack Littell. This will be Drury's second straight game on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury. The 31-year-old said he was available off the bench on Tuesday, so it doesn't sound like a very serious injury. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues will need to check back on Thursday to see if Drury is able to return for the series finale with the Rays. Rengifo doesn't have a hit in three career at-bats against Littell and is a low-cost, low-upside DFS play near the bottom of the Angels' lineup. In his first 42 plate appearances in 2024 Rengifo has 10 hits, no homers, three RBI and four stolen bases.

Wed Apr 1715:05Ben Lively To Make Season Debut WednesdayBen LivelyRP/SPRoyalsFree Agent
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Ben Lively (illness) has been reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday's contest in Boston against the Red Sox. The Guardians signed the 32-year-old to a one-year contract this winter after he made his big-league return with the Reds in 2023. Lively spent three seasons in the KBO before returning to North America for the 2022 season but stayed at Triple-A with the Reds that year. He worked to a 5.38 ERA across 19 outings (12 starts) for the Reds last season and has made a pair of starts with Triple-A Columbus this season, posting a 3.24 ERA across 8 1/3 innings of work.

Wed Apr 1714:58Zack Littell Aiming To Keep Rolling WednesdayZack LittellRP/SPTwinsFree Agent
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Zack Littell will look to keep his fast start going on Wednesday against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Littell has yielded just two earned runs across his first three starts of the season spanning 15 1/3 innings, striking out 15 against five walks in that time. The 28-year-old has been solid for the Rays since the club claimed him from the Red Sox last season as he tossed a 3.93 ERA in 26 outings (14 starts) with the club last season before starting this season with a 1.17 ERA, albeit alongside a 3.90 SIERA. He takes on an Angels offense that is tied for 16th with a .314 wOBA and 19th with a 23.6% K% on the young season.

Wed Apr 1700:49Jordan Romano Earns Save In Season Debut TuesdayJordan RomanoSPRangersFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano (elbow) earned a save in his season debut during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Yankees. Romano saw action immediately after being activated from the 15-day injured list earlier in the day. He entered the game to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by two. He got the first out on a lineout, hit a batter, allowed a double, got the second out on an RBI groundout, and ended the game with another groundout. It wasn't the cleanest save, but it was encouraging to see Romano convert in game action. The 30-year-old's return is a welcome sight for fantasy managers, as he has provided 36 saves in each of his last two seasons.

Wed Apr 1700:42Tanner Scott Earns Second Save Of Season TuesdayTanner ScottRPOriolesFree Agent
Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott picked up his second save of the season in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Giants. Scott came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by three. He got the first out on a flyout, allowed back-to-back walks, and got the final two outs on a strikeout and a pop-out. Things haven't gone smoothly for the 29-year-old, as he is 0-3 and has converted two of three save opportunities with a 4.15 ERA, an 8.31 K/9 rate, and a huge 12.46 BB/9 rate. Scott ended the 2023 season to earn the closer's role to start 2024, but walks have been an issue throughout his career. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out to see if he can get them back under control.

Wed Apr 1700:37Ryan O'Hearn Hits Two-Run Homer TuesdayRyan O'Hearn1BRoyalsFree Agent
Baltimore Orioles first baseman/outfielder Ryan O'Hearn got in on the slugfest in Tuesday's 11-3 win over the Twins. O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a single and a two-run home run. The 30-year-old has made the most of his playing time in the O's lineup, slashing .333/.400/.689 with four HR, 11 runs scored, and six RBI in 50 plate appearances. The O's have plenty of young talent to stack the lineup, but O'Hearn is worth a look in deeper leagues as long as he hits well enough to earn playing time.

Andrew VaughnFree Agent
Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez is back as the designated hitter and is batting third on Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals and right-hander Brady Singer, while first baseman Andrew Vaughn is getting the day off. Jimenez was activated from the injured list on Monday but wasn't in the starting lineup before getting a pinch-hit appearance later in the game. The White Sox are going to ease him back into the fold, but he could see more appearances in the outfield after starting there only 14 of 118 times in 2023. Vaughn has gone 1-for-16 in the last four games and 10-for-58 with no homers and three RBI to begin the year, so he's deserving of a rest. Gavin Sheets is at first base and is batting cleanup on Tuesday.

Jordan RomanoSPRangersFree Agent
The Toronto Blue Jays officially activated right-handed relievers Jordan Romano (elbow) and Erik Swanson (forearm) from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Nate Pearson to Triple-A Buffalo and designated right-hander Mitch White for assignment. Romano and Swanson came out of their short minor-league rehab assignments healthy and are ready to make their 2024 debuts with Toronto at the back end of their bullpen. While the 30-year-old Romano could be eased into his regular closer role, fantasy managers should be ready to throw him right into their starting lineups in season-long leagues after he recorded 36 saves in each of the last two seasons for the Blue Jays. Swanson has fantasy appeal as well in holds leagues and as a handcuff to Romano for his late-inning setup role.

Nolan SchanuelFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (hamstring) and first baseman Nolan Schanuel are both out of the lineup on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Drury should be considered day-to-day for now after leaving Monday night's win with a hamstring injury. If the 31-year-old, who has gone just 11-for-54 (.204) in the early going with one homer, ends up going on the injured list, Luis Rengifo would benefit from everyday playing time at the keystone. Rengifo is at second and batting seventh on Tuesday, while Miguel Sano is at first base and hitting cleanup against Rays right-hander Aaron Civale. Schanuel returned from a testicular contusion on Monday but is getting another day off on Tuesday. Schanuel is struggling in his first full big-league season with just four hits (one homer) in his first 42 at-bats in 2024.UPDATE: Drury said he'll be available off the bench on Tuesday.

Tue Apr 1612:29Eloy Jimenez Could Play Outfield AgainEloy JiménezRFWhite SoxFree Agent
Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said there was no recovery related reason for outfielder Eloy Jimenez not starting on Monday against the Kansas City Royals after he was activated from the injured list. Grifol said they are getting their cleanup hitter back but are also easing him back in after his groin injury. The 27-year-old could play some outfield again now that he's back, but Gavin Sheets will probably play the outfielder sooner. Jimenez had yet to play the outfield before his injury and started only 14 times in the outfield a year ago. It would be nice if Jimenez played enough outfield in 2024 to gain eligibility there for fantasy managers, but that's no guarantee. As long as Luis Robert Jr. (hip) remains sidelined, both Jimenez and Sheets should be lineup regulars for the Pale Hose.

Tue Apr 1610:05Luis Arraez Picks Up Three HitsLuis Arraez2BTwinsFree Agent
Miami Marlins infielder Luis Arraez went 3-for-4 with three singles in Monday's loss versus the San Francisco Giants. The strong performance raises his batting average to .284. Arraez was a breakout star last season with Miami as he hit .324 with 10 homers and 69 RBI, but has started slow in 2024. For the season he has no homers and just one RBI. Managers shouldn't panic yet as he is getting hits, but being at the top of a bad lineup will limit his other opportunities. At this rate it is probably best to remain patient versus selling low on Arraez as many managers spent a higher draft pick on him. He will look to keep it going versus Jordan Hicks in Game 2 of series.

Tue Apr 1600:28Taylor Ward Hits Sixth Homer Of Season MondayTaylor Ward3B/CAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward continued his hot offensive start in Monday's 7-3 win over the Rays. Ward went 2-for-5 with a single, a two-run home run, and two strikeouts. The 30-year-old now owns a .313/.333/.612 slash line with six HR, 13 runs scored, and an impressive 19 RBI in 69 plate appearances. He is rostered in 78% of leagues, so Ward could still be available in leagues where fantasy managers are looking for a hot bat.

Mon Apr 1521:57J.D. Davis Hits Injured List, Esteury Ruiz RecalledJ.D. Davis3BAstrosFree Agent
Esteury Ruiz2BPadresFree Agent
Oakland Athletics infielder J.D. Davis (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday, and outfielder Esteury Ruiz was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Davis exited Sunday's 7-6 win over the Washington Nationals due to a strained right groin, and he'll need to spend some time on the shelf. The 30-year-old was operating as Oakland's primary third baseman, but he's batting just .196 (10-for-51) with two solo home runs over 14 games this year. The speedy Ruiz is available off the bench for the A's on Monday and could eventually reclaim his spot as the club's everyday center fielder after a spell in the minor leagues. The 25-year-old contact hitter slashed .326/.423/.581 with three homers, eight RBI, and seven stolen bases across 51 plate appearances in the minors, and he led the American League with 67 swipes a year ago. Ruiz should be added in fantasy for steals where available.

Mon Apr 1517:09Eloy Jimenez Back From Injured ListEloy JiménezRFWhite SoxFree Agent
The Chicago White Sox activated outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez (groin) from the 10-day injured list on Monday. Jimenez was taking balls in right field before Monday's contest against the visiting Kansas City Royals but is not in the starting lineup. In a corresponding move, the team optioned infielder Zach Remillard to Triple-A Charlotte. Jimenez hasn't played since suffering a left-groin strain on March 31, so the White Sox have chosen to have him start his first game back on the bench. With Luis Robert Jr. (hip) and Yoan Moncada (groin) out for extended time, Jimenez should play regularly now that he's back from the IL, which will make it more difficult for Gavin Sheets to see regular at-bats moving forward. The oft-injured Jimenez has played in 100-plus games in just two of his previous five MLB seasons.

Mon Apr 1516:09Jordan Romano, Erik Swanson Likely To Return TuesdayErik SwansonSPMarinersFree Agent
Jordan RomanoSPRangersFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitchers Jordan Romano (elbow) and Erik Swanson (forearm) are likely to be activated from the injured list on Tuesday. Both Romano and Swanson have completed their minor-league rehab assignments and are ready to make their 2024 debuts in the big leagues this week. The Blue Jays could decide to ease the 30-year-old Romano into closing duties when he's back, but he should be rostered already in all fantasy formats. With Romano and Swanson injured, Chad Green has picked up two saves, while Yimi Garcia has one early in the season. Swanson probably isn't going to many save chances in 2024 as long as Romano stays healthy the rest of the way, but he'll be a key late-inning setup man and will have value in fantasy in holds leagues.
